Soil climate is a key indicator of climate change within the cryosphere. The climate data collected here contribute to an international global programme (Circumpolar Active Layer Monitoring) to help determine the impacts of global warming on permafrost stability. We undertake this through a network of nine soil climate stations and two boreholes to provide information about changes in soil temperature and climate. The programme has been collecting data since the 1999/2000 season. This long term dataset is invaluable for Antarctic soil scientists.
