The feature is not distinctive as the mountains are made up of a huge, snow-covered mass of rock, with a gently sloping summit. Discovered by the Darwin Glacier Party of TAE (1956-58). Named after M. Ellis, of the TAE, who accompanied Sir Edmund Hillary to the South Pole.
