This beach is covered by a large Adelie Penguin Rookery, and there is easy access from the sea when the coast is ice free. Named by the NZ Geological and Survery Antarctic Expedition, 1958-59, for Captain John Cadwalader, US Navy who encouraged and assisted the expedition in its Antarctic programme, and also rendered valuable assistance to the New Zealand Party of the Trans-Antarctic Expedition.
