They stand near the head of the Shackleton Glacier on the eastern side. The exposed rock in this region was observed on a number of occasions to give rise to the formation of heavy cumulus cloud, considered to be very rare at this altitude. Named by the Southern Party of the NZGSAE, 1961-62, because of these clouds.
