Used as a base in 1923 - 24 whaling season by Captain C A Larsen in the 13,000 ton factory ship, Sir James Clark Ross. This feature was last confirmed by USN Operation "Windmill" in 1947 - 48, though the configuration of such indentations is constantly changing.
