Charted by the Western Geological Party, led by Taylor, of the BAE, 1910-13, in December 1911. Named by Taylor at Debenham's suggestion, because Mt Suess (which they had intended to call Mt Gondola), to which the ridge is joined, is shaped like a gondola. Not Gondola Nunakol, or Gondola Nunatak.
