The Cape Bird Party of the NZGSAE, 1958-59, camped at the mouth of the stream, and found the water unpleasant to drink, as it was contaminated by cyclic salt, dissolved from surrounding slopes by melt-water from snow patches. Named by the NZ Antarctic Place names Committee for J Harrison, Mountaineer-Assistant with the above expedition.
