The spur lies 1 1/2 miles south-south-west of The Knoll, which surmounts Cape Crozier, the easternmost extremity of Ross Island. It was on this feature that Dr Wilson and his party built their stone igloo during the "Worst Journey in the World" and was also the site of one of the astronomical stations of the NSGSAE, 1958-59, which named this feature.
