Named by the Southern Party of the NZGSAE, 1961-62, for Mr C C Mauger, a member of the crew of the "Aurora", the vessel which transported the Ross Sea Party of Shackleton's Imperial TAE, 1914-17, from Australia to the Ross Sea.
