Charted by the BAE, 1907-09. Named for Captain Aenea L L Mackintosh, second officer of the expedition ship Nimrod, who lost an eye in an accident shortly after the expedition arrived in McMurdo Sound. Macintosh also accompanied the Ross Sea Party of Shackleton's Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, being in charge of the Aurora. He lost his life in a blizzard when attemtping to cross a section of the ice-covered McMurdo Sound.
