Discovered and photographed by Rear-Admiral Richard E Byrd on the Baselaying Flight of November 1929, and surveyed by A P Crary in 1957/58. Named by Crary fore Dr Hugh Odishaw, Executive Secretary of the US National Committee for the IGY.
