First visited on 4 October 1911 by the Northern Party, led by Campbell, of the BAE, 1910-13. Named because they found it necessary to relay their sledges owing to the heavy pressure ridges encountered here. The Ommanney, Neilson, and Reusch Glaciers flowing into this bay contribute to these pressure ridges.
