It is the south-eastern island of the group and rises at Brown Peak to a height of 1524m. The cliffs are rocky and steep, and there are broad ice-tongues reaching to the coast. Discovered on 9 February 1839 by Balleny , and named by him for T Sturge, one of the seven London merchants who assisted Charles Enderby in sending out the expedition.
