Surveyed and named in February 1957 by the New Zealand Party of the TAE, 1956-58. Named to replace Cape Teall, which was the name given by the NAE, 1901-04, for this feature. From the Ross Ice Shelf, Scott's party would naturally see it as part of the Worcester Range, but from the Skelton Glacier it appears as an island. Cape Teall was named for Mr J Teall, who had served on various committees associated with the NAE, 1901-04, and had helped draw up the Antarctic Manual.
