At the close of operations of the Trans-Antarctic Expedition, a large part of the Victorialand mountain chain extending from Cape Adare to the Horlick Mountains had beed surveyed. Two large areas remain unmapped. That lying between the Barne and Nimrod Glaciershad not even been approached by man, while the nImrod and Axel Heiberg Glaciers only the Beardmore Glacier. Traversed by the parties of Scott and Shackleton and the western fringe of the Queen Alexandra Range, visited in 1957/58 by Marsh and Miller, had been surveyed. A second area between the Mawson Glacier to Terra Nova Bay had been traversed coastwise by the parties of Scott-Shackleton, but with the exception of Upper Reeves Glacier, nothing is known of the mountains away from the coast. Between Terra Nova Bay and Tucker Glacier. Coastal features have been sketched mapped from ships but the land is otherwise unexplored.
