Event NameNZARPNorthern Field Party Geological and Survey Expedition 1963-64Abstract
During the field season extending from October 25 1963 to January 28 1964 the geology of an area roughly bounded by the Pennell Glacier in the west to Tucker Glacier in the east and from 72°S, north to Oates Land Coast was examined in reconnaissance fashion.
The southern limits of the area mapped extended to the northern edge of the regions mapped in 1962-63 by the Northern Party of teh NZARP and the Federated Mountain Clubs Expedition, providing continuity of geology throughout. the two areas. With the aid of aerial photos and a short reconnaissance flight at the close of the field season, continuity of the geology was acheived between the western boundary of the Hallett geological map and the most eastern point, north of the Tucker Glacier, visited by this party.
A total of 150 geological specimens were taken from 145 examined localities, a number of which will be suitable for absolute age determinations and bulk chemical analysis.
