The basement dykes around Vanda were studied and sampled. This project is much larger than anticipated and further field work is required. Three efforts to photograph the Vanda dyke swarm in colour from the air during scheduled flights were all thwarted by unsuitable late season weather. Dolerite dykes and their contacts in the Beacon sediments at Shapeless Mountain| and in the Asgard and Olympus Ranges were sampled though a mantle of scree at some Dry Valley localities limited this work. Opportunity was also take to make some additional studies in the Beacon Supergroup including concretions the Heimdall Erosion Surface and some possible lake sediments. An essential part of all of these studies is petrological examination of samples in the laboratory. Meteorological observations were made throughout the season those at Shapeless mountain being contributed to the record being kept by members of Event 11 (VUWAE 17C). Samples of salts and desert varnish were collected for studies by other people.
