Dr Stocchino complested three infra-red tempetature runs up and down each side of Lake Taylor from a helicopter . Ten days were taken up with geological excursions between New Harbour and the Canada Glacier, and on each side of the valley on Mt Flaconer and in the Kukri Hills. Professor Segre's main interest was in the quaternary geology around old beach levels near New Harbour. Dr Manzoni, a geologist slecialising in geomagnetism, was involved in studying the orinetation of volcanic rocks mainly on Mt Falconer and on a small Kukri Hills peak. Dr Stocchino, a mocrometerorologist, set up a temperature monitoring device on the lake shore, recording temperatures 24 hrs a day at various heights from ground level to three metres. Exploratory trips were made around teh back of the Commonwealth Galcier descending to New Harbour from near Hjorth Hill. Over Christmas Pro Segre, Piussi, Clemete and Monteath were helicoptered to Vanda Station so that Segre could continue geological work in teh Lower Wright and near Lake Vanda, in order to compare the rocks and findings with the work done in the Taylor Valley. Piussi and Monteath climbed the west face of teh Obelisk from Asgard Hut. Manzoni and Stocchino remained at Lake Fryxell over this period monitoring temperatures and doing further geological work in teh proximity of the lake.
