This fossil and others like it were found by a geological expedition led by Mrs Margaret Bradshaw of the Canterbury Museum and have caused considerable interest in the geological world. It is the first time that fresh-water shell-fish fossils have been found in the Trans-Antarctic mountains of eastern Antarctica.
