This is the only time (Sept through to March) when the weather conditions favour a mission of this nature. The USS Glacier has participated in each of the previous seven Deep Freeze Operations and this year will be no exception.
Leading the way for the supply vessels through the thick pack ice Glacier smashes through the thick pack ice clearing a water highway for the convoy.
