Share certificate from the Trans-Antarctic expedition, signed by Sir Edmund Hillary.
After Patricia Simpson, passed away in 2014, her husband Henry Simpson, moved into a retirement village. They'd lived in their house in Masterton since the late 50's and their grandaughter, Bella, came across this while clearing the house out.
Henry is not sure where it came from. The share would have been bought in the mid-50's, just before he and Patricia married.
Bella assumes it was bought either by her grandmother, or more likely by Patricia's parents, as she would have been only about 20 at the time and a pound was a lot of money back then!
Further investigation revealed that Patricia Simpson's father, John Bouzaid, was a prominent member of the Masterton Rotary Club at the same time as Bob Miller - full name: Joseph Holmes Miller - a surveyor who was deputy leader of the New Zealand party of the Trans-Antarctic Expedition, under Edmund Hillary.
It is likely Bob promoted the share certificates to the Rotary Club and John Bouzaid took him up on the offer to buy a share.
