The Scott Base staff stationed on the ice at Christmas 2015 had a mammoth gingerbread baking session and made 63 Scott polar tents, one for each person on Base.
Ursula Jewell, the base science tech, did the trigonometry to make sure the angles and ratios were an accurate reflection of those in the actual tents.
The ingredients were shipped from Germany and Christchurch (thanks Woody for accommodating those kgs of honey!).
The in-house architect, Don, created a replica of Discovery Hut – complete with seal blubber and Health & Safety Manager, Andy White, who earlier in the season had demonstrated (quite by accident) the perils of not looking where you're going when walking around Dicovery Hut.
The entire Scott Base team had fun in the creation – and devouring them, too!
