It has been one month since the sun set for the last time at Scott Base.
In the clear conditions today, the landscape was lit up by the full moon and aurora australis, allowing staff to have clear views of the normally dark winter landscape.
The outside temperature was a relatively warm minus 25 degrees celsius at the time of filming with no wind chill.
Film maker Anthony Powell appears in this clip. It is extremely rare to get auroras that are bright enough to be seen under the full moon. Most aurora clips are normally shot as time-lapse because video cameras are not usually sensitive enough to capture what is seen with the naked eye. Using specialised equipment Anthony is the first person to capture the subtle motion of auroras moving in real-time on camera at Scott Base.
