We aim to improve understanding of the relationship between the constant outflow of cold air from the continent, sea ice variability, and warmer and moister circumpolar oceanic air masses. The way that these features interact is key to the generation of localized weather patterns, which provide a lot of variability in precipitation and temperature across the region. Weather has a huge influence on Antarctic life and ecosystems, particularly in coastal areas which will be among the first to experience the effects of climate change.
