Vulnerability of the Ross Ice Shelf in a warming Globe HWD Site 2 (Science).
We aim to understand the impact of climate change on the Ross Ice Shelf. This season we will drill a hole through the ice shelf in order to study the ocean below, using a range of instruments and a remotely operated submersible vehicle. We will leave a permanent instrument array behind so we can see how the ocean under the ice changes with the seasons. We will sample sea floor sediments to give insight to when the last ice age ended. Seismometers will be installed in the ice to measure the internal properties of the ice shelf. We will continue our measurements of the atmosphere, and link these to ice shelf behaviour.
