Event NameOceanographic and Sea Seismic Antarctic ProgrammeAbstract
The scientific aim of the cruise was to carry out sea seismic and oceaographic work betwwn New Zealand and McMurdo Sound and in the Ross Sea| and tow behind the ship a proton magnetometer to measure the total strength of the Earth's magnetic field. On the outward and return jurney s this instrument was to be towed around the coast of the South Island to determine if any magnetic anomolies existed which could affect the magnetic compass of a ship. The ship's track is shown on the accompanying charts. A pencil line is drawn alongside those positions of the outward track for which magnetic records were obtained.
