Environmental artist Martin Hill in collaboration with his partner Philippa Jones have made an international career from their sculptures made in nature which Hill photographs. The sculptures are made from nature, and return to nature, with his photos the only evidence that they existed.
It’s a deceptively simple idea that pushes a much deeper message about the shift to a circular restorative economy. Hill and Jones are passionate about the environment and ecological sustainability and this passion has taken them around the world, including Scott Base with Antarctica NZ.
From their home in Wanaka they are taking 27 large scale prints including the one shown here and three others from their time in Antarctica to be exhibited outdoors in the heart of the city of Andorra la Vella and also in a leading photography gallery, Inter Art Centre in the heart of the Beijing art district.
As invited artists they spent 12 days working from Scott Base in December last year making sculptures and art/science videos about climate change with information provided by scientists Prof Tim Naish and Dr Richard Levy.
